It’s a good day in LA! I recently had the privilege of working with the gorgeous and talented Julie Chang to decorate her brand new condo. Julie recently swapped coasts in December, leaving her job as the entertainment anchor on Good Day New York to sunny Los Angeles where she’s now the entertainment anchor for Good Day LA on Fox 11. She essentially came here with nothing but a box full of (adorable) shoes – giving us a completely blank canvas to bring her spacious 2-bedroom condo to life. She gave us a shoestring budget of $13,000 and 2 1/2 weeks to paint, furnish, and decorate from the floors up…OY!
Thankfully, there were a just a few things she brought with her from the Big Apple which served as our inspiration and jumping off point. Those items included two utterly gorgeous Merida rugs from the Celerie Kemble Collection, along with two Roberto Dutesco prints that can make a girl weak in the knees. We began by grabbing a few cans (12 or so…) of Benjamin Moore Aura paint to give her walls a little love and to freshen up the space. From there we immediately started hitting thrift stores and scouring the web for the chicest and cheapest bits we could find. It was a challenge but we had so much fun giving it the “Hillary Thomas” treatment – creating an eclectic, coastal, and glamorous haven for Julie.
And to make things even MORE fun, we shot a whole segment which aired on Good Day LA today showing the major transformation of Julie’s newly “cheap chic” pad.
Now who doesn’t love a before and after? Enjoy!
….and AFTER!
Stay tuned next week as we highlight each room and give you all the details on how to get Julie’s “cheap chic” look!
